Nail a 1 by 3 inch board across thresholds that are not high enough to contain the new floor level.
How to lay latex floor screed.
A screed is a long flat tool used to make mortar even.
Maximum depths are around 10 15mm however with the addition of bulking aggregates normally kiln dried sand some latex floor screed can go up to 30mm.
In this example roger uses bostik s cempolatex to level a floor with self levelling compound but the theory applies to most self levelling screeds and you ll see that it s not just a simple case of throwing the mixture on the floor and retiring while it spreads itself out.
For example bal level max can be tiled after 4 hours but must be left to set for 24 hours for other finishes such as vinyl or carpet.
You can also use a paint roller or finishing trowel if you don t have a screed.
Install new transition strips at the thresholds after the leveling compound cures.
Do not use self leveling compound over glazed ceramic tiles or over floors where a majority of the installed tiles have cracked.
After you pour the self leveling compound scrape the screed over the latex to spread it evenly over the floor.
Make sure to fill in any dips in the floor.
Latex floor screed is normally used to smooth the surface of concrete and screeds when laying thin vinyl or thin floor coverings.
A latex floor screed will smooth out those slight imperfections.
Always allow the new floor to set before laying your finished floor surface.
Setting times can vary depending on your chosen product normally between 4 to 24 hours and is dependent upon your floor finish.
Slight imperfections in substrate will show up in these types of floor coverings.
