When installing laminate vinyl tile or hardwood flooring it s important to know how to level a floor.

Your moisture barrier will go directly over the tile which is why the flooring must be dry when beginning the installation. Provided the sub flooring is in good condition the tile is clean dry and the grout joints are level with the tile you are now ready to install your laminate flooring. This comes in wide rolls that install directly over the tile. If you are installing the flooring below grade or in a room like a basement with high humidity or moisture lay down a vapor barrier before you install the flooring.

Leveling floors can be a diy project or left to professionals. Use spacers to keep this laminate square in line with the first. In general laminate flooring requires a base of thin polyethylene foam padding. You can lay laminate over tile as long as the tile is in good condition which means no broken or loose pieces.

Additionally some patch leveling may be necessary to make the old floor flat enough to install over and the added thickness may mean that existing doors have to be cut to a new height. A level subfloor will help your flooring last longer and keep the finish attractive. The second row will need to start at that mark. After installing the first row and beginning the second row you will have to measure the half way point on the first tile installed.

After getting some of the floor installed i put felt on the legs of the washer and dryer and slide them on to the laminate. They should acclimate for at least 48 hours. For convenience some brands come with foam already. Put a small block of wood against the top of the new laminate piece opposite of the end connected to the corner piece.

Lay out the unopened boxes of laminate planks in the room. Snap the pieces of tile together. This will allow them to acclimate to the room s temperature and humidity. You join planks by matching the tongue joint of one plank to the groove joint of another lifting one side of the plank you re installing to angle it and then pushing the joints together.

You should install an underlayment before laying the floor but you may need to install transition strips. The process would be the same as installing a laminate floor on a concrete slab. If the tiles aren t flat you need to level the floor using leveling compound. One way to replace a ceramic floor is to install a second layer of ceramic over top of it the old floor must first be sanded to scratch up the glaze and allow the new thin set to stick.
