How to install a shower pan over a wooden floor.
Mark the outline of the shower pan on the subfloor using pencil or a chalk line.
Next seal the edges of the pan and any holes with silicone bath caulk.
Paint over the entire pan including corners nooks and the perimeter with a liquid waterproofing product.
Time to replace that old nasty shower.
Install backing around the bottom of the shower stall.
Use the level to make sure all sides of the pan slope toward the drain.

You will later screw the shower pan into the wall studs.
Seal them with another coat of thinset.
A curb design which is the one you must step over as you enter the shower or a curb less design where the shower and the surrounding bathroom floor are at the same level.
In the above image you will see 2x6 pieces fastened in between the studs around the entire perimeter of the shower pan.
Then attach the pan to the surrounding studs using screws and washers that are overlapping the lip of the pan.
Plug the drain and fill it with two inches of water.
Test fit the shower pan to confirm the drain opening fits over the drain hole in the floor.
It s now ready for finishing touches like ceramic tile.
Allow this to dry overnight.
Wait three days for the mud to dry and cure before waterproofing it.

To install a shower pan start by fitting the pan into place and leveling it with wooden shims if necessary.
For the floor of your shower or shower pan there are two basic options.
Typically i go with 2x10 s to ensure i have the backing to allow the membrane to rise 9 1 2 up to the wall.
Allow it to set overnight.
If the water is still at the same height the next day your shower pan over the wooden floor is waterproof.
Mark the center of each wall stud on the shower pan rim.
