How To Glue Foam Mat Together

Foam projects require the right types of adhesive to keep it firmly in place and maintain the solid structure while allowing it to maintain its flexibility.

Original gorilla glue comes in brown or clear is readily available at most stores. Spray adhesive glue to both pieces of foam. Press the two pieces together and let them sit for at least 30 minutes until the glue cools completely. Apply the glue evenly to both surfaces.

When gluing foam coat both surfaces with adhesive and allow a few seconds for the glue to get tacky. For smaller foam pieces that will fit inside a hand clamp secure them with the clamp after pressing them together.

Tighten the clamp just enough to hold the two foam pieces in place but not enough to make an indentation in the foam. If they are large foam blocks hold them together for about 30 seconds and then release them. Place the glued area of the two pieces together in the shape you wish to form. Foam is valued for its flexibility.

The downside is that it is very difficult to clean up and once it dries it is nearly impossible to clean. Wait about 15 minutes for it to dry and then stick the surfaces together. Liberally apply adhesive coating both pieces and allow about 10 seconds for the glue to become tacky. Put the glue gun on the lowest setting because very hot glue will melt the foam.

Press the foam firmly together once the pieces are properly placed.
