A hazy whitish or cloudy hardwood floor can be caused by bad cleaning agents the buildup of wax or floor cleaner residue.

If the floor has a v groove work the steel wool into the groove to remove wax from there.
You should always remove most if not all the wax on these types of floors about once a year.

Using an ice cube to harden the wax drippings is one way to remove wax from hardwood floors with minimal scraping required.
If the wax is fresh and still malleable you may need to hold the ice cube for a minute or two.
And i suggest a few brands of wood floor wax that should be readily available in your area.

Try working in sections with a mop and going over it with a dry microfiber cloth on a dry mop.
