How to fix door getting stuck on floor.
Having drawn a line on the door proceed to take it off the hinges and carry it somewhere you feel comfortable kicking up a little sawdust.
First run a piece of paper at the bottom of door to identify where is sticky.
Step 1 examine the door with your eyes.
The latch will not retract even when the knob is turned.
To repair a stripped screw hole under the hinge leaf tom plugs the hole and gives the screw something new to bite into.
Close the door and run your eyes along the gap between the door and the frame noting places where the gap is very thin.
If you can t easily pry the hinge pin out with a flat head screwdriver try holding a hex key or allen wrench in the bottom of the hinge and tapping it with a hammer to force the pin upwards.
Also check for grime or any sticky buildup that may just need to be cleaned.
With a drill you re more likely to over tighten the screw and strip the screw holes or chew up the screwheads.
If your door rubs near the top or drags on the floor use a screwdriver not a drill to tighten the screws.
The knob will not turn to retract the stuck door latch.
Try to open the door while it is shut.
A door can settle and sag over time causing that annoying sticky feeling or not closing at all.
Look for scratches in the paint or any other noticeable damages to the door and frame.
Take note of the type of resistance.
If it s a matter of the door edge hitting the door frame use your philips screwdriver and tighten the screws on either the top middle or bottom hinge.
Troubleshooting a stuck door latch.
This is very useful if you can t.
Next use a hand plane power planer or belt sander to.
If the door continues to stick you ll need to take it off the hinges.
More force is needed to turn the knob and unstick the latch.
Do not over tighten the screws or you may strip break them.
Tighten the screws that go into the door and the screws that go into the door frame.
The door latch is not extended before rotating the knob.
Doors sometimes get stuck for the same reason as windows so the first step is to try the methods above.
Use a pencil or a label to mark where you need to sand down.
