I use 1 1 4 for rug warp when i m doing a whipped edge you will have to experiment with this measurement if you are using another backing because the thicknesses of linen backings are not consistent.
How to finish rug edge.
Use a small paintbrush to spread the substance evenly along the edge.
Then sew the inner edge of the bias tape to the mesh covering the raw mesh edges for a neat finished backing.
Apply more glue in the groove between the rug fabric and the binder tape edging.
Turn your rug face up on the work surface.
This is done by a carpet binding machine.
Trim the edges of the carpet remnant with a utility knife or a carpet knife so that each edge is clean and the overall remnant is the desired size.
If you are using the staple gun plate idea you would put your metal plate under the carpet and staple down the edge.
Mark your final edge by drawing a line around the outside edge of your rug.
Staple along the edge.
Binding is typically the easiest and least expensive method of finishing a carpet edge.
Binding the edge of a carpet involves wrapping a strip of fabric which is generally made from either polyester or cotton around the edge of the carpet and stitching it in place.
This step is necessary for most finishing methods.
Cut a piece of cloth 10 cm 4 inches longer and wider than your latch hook rug.
Using your glue gun fasten the tape to the underside edge of the rug.
Make sure that each square of the mesh is secured to the bias tape.
Squeeze a narrow bead of carpet adhesive or liquid resin along the first several inches of the raw edge.
Place a 1 8 inch bead of hot glue between the edge of the carpet and the raised part of the binding.
Place the cloth along the edge on top of the pile so the edge of the pile and the edge of the cloth are together.
Fold all four fabric edges over on the wrong side of the fabric by three quarters of an inch.
Work your way around the carpet with the glue until your carpet edges are completely bound.
Beginning in the middle of a side slide peeled instant binder tape under the rug until only the rolled serged or rope edging shows against the rug.
Set your carpet down pile up.
